Could somebody with a better understanding of this ocarina than I please describe it's characteristics? I find it to be an interesting design (and I've heard so many good things about it), but I would like to know more about it before I pay full price for it. You know how us teenagers think that $175.00 is a lot of money.... ;)

Haha, so true.  It's all relative though.  I remember when I was 13 getting my first full size violin, I used my college fund to put almost $2000 towards my $3000 violin.  And that's just a student level violin.  When I got to college, my violin was actually not really at college calliber for a music student.  It's a bit scary how much it costs to get a halfway decent stringed instrument.  I guess that's why people collect ocarinas and not some of the other instruments!  I love that for a fraction of the cost of my violin I'm currently using (well borrowing actually.  It's not mine) I can have a bazillion ocarinas.  I can choose which ocarina I'd like to play that day!

The Blue and White Porcelain Tenor ocarina is one of my very favorite instruments to play.  In a nutshell, it is comfortable to hold, requires less effort to play lowest notes that use sub holes (B, Bb, and A), requires a medium airstream (I don't have to concentrate as much on blowing too hard or soft to play in tune), and the porcelain material gives it a pure and clear sound.  If you are a fan of the Infinity, (which I also love) the purity of sound is somewhat comparable, but I find the porcelain tenor to be much more comfortable to hold.  If you are seriously into collecting I would say save up and go for it.  I doubt anyone would regret it.  This is by far my favorite to play in public purely for the fact that so many more people will come ask questions about the instrument.  The design is just so beautiful in itself that people want to see it up close, which means that I get to tell them about the ocarina!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, all I have to compare it to is the Enigma.... :(

I think the sound of the Enigma is a brighter more in-your-face kind of sound.  (Well, as in-your-face as an ocarina can get that is...)  The porcelain is a more refined pure sound I think.  Would you agree Heather?

This is one of my favorite ocarinas too.  The tone is exceptional, the ergonomics are great, and the gold paint is a nice touch.  I'm glad the picture for it is high resolution, because it really is quite stunning in the light.  If other ocarinas in this series become available, I'll probably pick them up as well.  :)

It's nice to be important but it is more important to be nice.

Good question Desmond.  Heather, what do you think?  I've only played this ocarina a little bit so I'm not as familiar with it as with some of the others.

Personally I like the blue and white porcelain ocarina better.  It is not actually heavy at all (although I do not know the exact weight).  I would say if you really like the purple clay tenor C, go ahead and give the blue and white porcelain a chance.  It is just as good, just a slightly different tone.  Think of them as two really great singers, both are equally talented but you still have your favorite you'd rather listen to.
